Matsumoto :

Matsumoto is a mountain city on Japan’s main island, Honshu. It’s known for Matsumoto Castle, a 16th-century stronghold nicknamed “Crow Castle” for its distinctive black walls. Nearby Nakamachi Street is lined with old merchant houses reminiscent of a bygone Japan. The Japanese Alps loom overhead, with hot springs, ski runs and hiking trails. In summer, a road to Mount Norikura is carved through deep walls of snow.

Tateyama :

The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is a mountain sightseeing route between Tateyama, Toyama and Omachi, Nagano, Japan. The whole route opened on June 1, 1971.

Day1      TOKYO - MATSUMOTO    

Express train to Matsumoto from Shinjuku (Travel Time 180min.).

Upon arrival, make your own way to your accommodation.

Free at leisure. Matsumoto Castle is Japan's oldest wooden castle and one of the four castles designated a National Treasure inm Japan.

Japan Ukiyo-e Museum has more than 100,000 prints,paintings,screens and books of Ukiyo-e. It's about JPY 2,000 by taxi , 3km from Matsumoto.

 

Day2      MATSUMOTO-SHINANO OMACHI-KUROBE DSAM-MURODO (B/D)      

Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route is a specutacular scenic route across 3,000 meters high Northern Japan Alps. The total lenght of the route is 90km.

Train to Shinano-Omachi, bus to Ogizawa and  trolley bus to Kurobe Dam  

Enjoy 15 min.walk to Kurobe before taking cable car to Kurobedaira.Proceed to Daikanbo by ropeway.

You will finally get to Murodo by trolley bus running in the tunnel piercing through Mt. Tateyama (3,015 meters high).

Your hotel is set right above the trolley bus stop.Enjoy short walking to the beautiful pond Mikuri-ga-ike.

 

Day3      MURODO - TATEYAMA -TAKAYAMA -TOKYO (B)    

Highland bus down to Bijodaira and cable car to Tateyama.

Local train to Toyama,and express train to Takayama.

You may drop in Takayama for a few hours to see a charming historical town on the way.

Express Train to Nagoya and bullet train to Tokyo.

If you want to proceed to Kanazawa and Kyoto via Shirakawago from Takayama instead of returning to Tokyo,it will be arranged with additional cost.
